NEPAL:

16th April, 2008: 24-hrs hunger strike relay was attended by Mr. Sudeep Pathak, President of Human Rights Organization Nepal and former commissioner of National Human Rights Commission, Nepal. On behalf of all Human Rights Campaigners in Nepal, he expressed his solidarity with all Tibetans and expressed his wish to urge the Chinese Government to show restraint. And at the same time, he expressed his hope that the demand of the Tibetan Solidarity Committee will be positively responded by the Chinese Government. He conveyed his deepest concern for those Tibetans who were still detained in Tibet and who have no access to the immediate medical assistance. He promise to urge the United Nations Human Rights Commission, Amnesty International and International community to pressure China to put an end to the unrest in Tibet and immediately resolve the issue of Tibet.
In yet another event, on 17th April 2008, more than 200 Tibetans stages a peaceful demonstration outside the Chinese Embassy. However half of the total strength of the demonstrators was arrested. All in all, nearly 101 Tibetans were detained in several police custody in Nepal. The detainees were often visited by the Tibetan Solidarity Forum in Kathmandu.
Yet another fresh demonstration was staged outside the Old Chinese Embassy and New Chinese Embassy in Nepal. More than 483 Tibetans were arrested in that incident. Many Tibetans were detained in different police custodies; namely Kamal Pokhari, Chakrapath, Gaushala, and Maharajganj. Amongst them, 2 schoolgirls were severely injured and taken to hospital.  A lady was also severely injured and has been receiving treatment at OM hospital. It is reported that today's demonstration has been the largest demonstration so far since this day coincides with the arrival the Olympic torch in India. It is fortunate that all arrestees were released in between 10 PM and 11 PM.

Report from Pokhara, Nepal

Nearly 175 people gathered at Ambot, Lakeside from 14th to 17th April to observe 72 hours long hunger strike. And prayers were also recited. Nearly 2000 documents consist of press release, appeal and news collection were distributed. The photo exhibition of the recent crackdown in Tibet was also conducted. The following Nepalese personalities paid a visit to the gathering to show their solidarity:

  2. Mr. Nilkantha Sharma, President of Nepal human Rights Center
  3. Mr. Narayan Karki, President of Zonal Journalist Association
  4. Mr. John Macloed, Ex-mayor of Ireland
The hours long hunger strike was concluded with offering of juice to those observers by the Mr. Sudip Pathak. The Committee also publicized the issue through various television and radio channels. It came across in several local newspapers. The committee also made a mass signature campaign in support of Tibet.
