24 hour Relay Fasting in Solidarity with Tibetans in Tibet: 

The relay fasting entered its 14th day with a new group of 64 Tibetans from all over Kathmandu including 15 nuns from Kopan Ani Gonpa. Yesterday’s group consisted of entirely women (61 students from class XI and 5 staffs from Namgyal Higher Secondary School) especially attracted media attention. Chithue Yungdrung Gyaltsen la addressed the school contingent and read out the latest press release from TSC. Chithue Gyalnor Tsewang la also addressed the group at the start and end of the day’s fasting.

Bengal and Sikkim -

April 16, 2008: 37 Tibetans from Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Sonada, Ravangla, Oplahpari, Palden Seyguy Dratsang (Salugara) observed a hunger strike relay for 24 hrs on April 16th and 17th at Eastern by-pass, Indra Gandhi Maidhan. The activity received media coverage.

April 17, 2008: At 3:00 PM, monks from Chokretra Monastery and around 500 Tibetans congregated at Darjeeling and recited prayers on:

  • Gyalwai Shabten
  • Dolma
  • Guru Thukdham Neykul
  • Mani

At night, Tibetans observed a candle light vigil and distributed press release in the main streets of Darjeeling.

From April 9th to April 14th, 2008: The Regional Tibetan Women’s Association organized Dolma Bumther (100,000 counts of Dolma prayer).

April 21, 2008: Tibetans in North West locality, observed “A Black Day” by wearing black attire. More than 150 Tibetan shaved their heads among 6 of them were female.

From April 20, 2008: Under the leadership of the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement, invited monks and other Tibetans have been reciting the prayer “Gyalwai Kagyur Rinpoche”.

From March 17, 2008: Tibetans lit butter lamp and recited prayers. The Tibetans also made a rally around the street.

April 19, 2008: Nearly 100 monks from Palchen Choeling monastery and nearly 400 Tibetans from various settlements observed a candle light vigil from the main settlement to the Main power station. They also recited prayers.
