Recent protest and crackdown by the Chinese in Lhasa
(An eye report from a resident of Lhasa)

• Lhasa is filled with military personals right after the 2nd day of the protest on 3/14/08. No one with proper identification of residence in Lhasa is allowed to roam the street or go to the market. They are checking everyone’s bags & pockets on the street. They don’t even give them rights to return to their home.
• The phone lines of all the around monasteries have been shut down, right after the protests.
• Government raid and check all the houses and families for the picture of the Dalai Lama and imprison the ones with such possessions.
• Due to the foreign media’s tour between the 27th till the 29th, the military personals were asked to leave the city temporarily, to show that they are not imposing tough military presence in the Lhasa city. At some locations, they even let the military disguise in a civilian clothing to hide their presence from the foreign media.
• Afternoon 29th of March, they have moved in even more military presence in the city. They have shut down major monasteries. They have blocked the main door/entrance of the “tsepak Lhakhang” (a monastery near ramoche), with a Huge ROCK. They are letting the monks die of hunger with no food/water coming into the monasteries.
• If they see Tibetans take picture of the situation or places, the military would beat the person and break their camera or phones, by which they were taking the pictures.
