Situation in Tibet, Extremely Critical

The situation inside Tibet is becoming extremely critical. Chinese military with its tight securities have surrounded majority of the monasteries throughout Tibet leaving residents without any access to their daily needs, as simple as food and water. Without gas and food, water unplugged, monks and nuns are trapped in a desperate situation they have resorted to break their wooden beds in order to make fire. Furthermore, all monks and nuns have not been allowed to perform their daily religious activities.

If the situation inside Tibet does not improve immediately, hundreds of monks and nuns can face death from starvation all at once. Similarly, the China's brutal suppression and the Tibetan people's unbearable suffering leads to commit suicide without any choice left.

In eastern part of Tibet, Amdo and Kham areas, Tibetans were forced to flee their homes to the mountains in an attempt to escape China's brutal crackdown. They are currently trapped on the mountains and in the woods without their basic necessity, i.e., food, clothes, water, and gas. Their situation is extremely critical and immediately needs international attention.

The whereabouts of many Tibetan arrestees remain unknown. The detained and arrested Tibetans continue to go through tremendous and unimaginable torture. Prevalence of unjust system of law in Tibet may cause many innocent Tibetans to receive severe punishments. China's unlawful act is shown through their confiscation of dead Tibetan bodies in order to cover up their killings of innocent Tibetan. To completely eradicate all evidence, they cremated the corpses.

Medical care in Tibet is urgently needed. The injured Tibetans from the brutal crackdown continue to remain in critical condition. They have not received single proper medical treatment and as a consequence, Lobsang Jinpa from Kham Menyak and Gyalpo, a monk from Phenpo Gaden Chokhor monastery died. These are few cases we only know about.

In the monasteries, Chinese soldiers continue to vandalize prayer halls and monks' residencies. They have confiscated many monks' personal belongings and destroyed holy relics. The little left of monasteries' belongings and the safety of the monks in the monastery cannot be guaranteed.

In view of the present critical crisis in Tibet, out of our usual 6 demands, today we particularly appeal on the two following demands to UN, International communities, and countries that firmly believe in the principle of truth and justice:

1. To immediately dispatch independent fact-finding delegations to Tibet
2. To end the brutal killings on the Tibetan plateau
