Light the Passion, Share the Dream:

Freedom and Justice for Tibet

As the Beijing Olympic Torch passes New Delhi on April 17, the Tibetan Solidarity Committee would like to draw the attention of the world community to the urgent plight of the Tibetans inside Tibet. Following the peaceful protest in Lhasa on March 10th marking the 49th Tibetan National Uprising Day, unprecedented widespread non-violent peaceful protests erupted in many parts of Tibet against 49 years of oppressive Chinese policies.  These protests were brutally crushed by the Chinese regime resulting in the 154 reported deaths, over 500 injured and over 2000 innocent Tibetans arrested. Door to door search and arbitrary arrests continues on a regular basis. There is a severe restriction of movement and many Tibetans particularly monks and nuns are denied access to daily necessities resulting in reported cases of starvation. Thousands of Chinese troops have been deployed in Tibet and a martial law like condition prevails in Tibet.

In addition to the brutal crackdown, Chinese government is aggressively using its propaganda machinery to undermine the global support for the Tibetan movement by falsely manufacturing evidence linking Tibetan activism to acts of terrorism.

In light of the existing brutal repression in Tibet, each and every Tibetan outside Tibet pledges their solidarity with the Tibetan movement inside Tibet and strongly condemns the brutal crackdown. The Torch for Tibet celebrates our non-violent struggle for fundamental freedoms and persistence to seek a lasting solution to the issue of Tibet through negotiation.
